Arts education plays a vital role in student learning, creativity, and connection. Across Maine, educators and communities continue to recognize that the arts are not an add-on to education — they are essential.

The Maine Alliance for Arts Education (MAAE) is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening education in and through all the arts for all Maine students. Our work brings together educators, teaching artists, students, and advocates to support creative learning experiences and promote the value of arts education in schools and communities.

A Statewide Approach to Arts Education

MAAE works at both the state and local level to encourage, promote, and strengthen arts education across Maine. By connecting schools with teaching artists, supporting advocacy efforts, and elevating student voice, the organization helps ensure that arts learning remains accessible and relevant for students across diverse geographic and educational settings.

Rather than focusing on a single discipline or age group, MAAE supports education in all the arts — including visual art, music, theatre, dance, and creative writing — recognizing the unique ways each contributes to student development.
